Look what turned up in the post today.

I have big plans for this little beauty. First I need to play around with it but on my list of things to do in the not too distant future is port Entertainer to the beagle board with the intentions of running it on the new Maemo 5 platform.
For those people that don't already know, Entertainer is a fully function albeit sparse at the moment, media center like application using Python and Clutter. Its been built entirely from scratch and boasts good functionality already with much more planned for the future.
I want to be fully up to speed by the time the Maemo 5 SDK is released (hopefully in November) and the nearest thing to getting the actual hardware is the beagle board so I figure why not port one of my other projects and kill two birds with one stone.
For a little reminder of what Entertainer looks like.

If you are interested in helping out with the project the get in contact. You can reach me through the contact link at the top of the page.

Hopefully you have more time to play with Beagle than I have had so far =(
TI has anyway done great job with OMAP3 & Beagleboard, it's going to help boost the whole embedded Linux scene!

Dude... Can't wait. ;)
Jamie,
Where did you get your Beagleboard from? What was the total cost (wallopped by HMRC?)
Ta,
Jaffa
I searched long and hard for a EU supplier but didn't find one. I got it from digikey at http://dkc1.digikey.com/us/mkt/beagleboard.html
Stung buy £15.46 import duty so it was about £105 delivered.
HTH
only digikey sells them... but htey do have local stores/pricing, like http://uk.digikey.com show 91 pounds... In the netherlands any order above 65 euros now has free shipping.
The only problem is that although they have local pricing, the postage is from the US so import duty applies.
Just, fyi, DigiKey is the only supplier for the Beagle Board, but they ship everywhere. :)

Do you know how Entertainer compares with Elisa?
Elisa is commercially funded and has a much larger development community. At the moment Entertainer has a handful of developers.
You could say Entertainer is what Elisa was in the early days functionality wise but Entertainer is actually so much more. It's a project that is designed with test driven development (tdd) in mind to hopefully produce less bugs, it is a playground for cool idea's and there is a very low barrier for community contributions as long as they stick to the standards.
Its a very early project which also makes it an exciting one. People jumping on board now can effect the whole outcome of the project and steer it with the regular developers help so go get involved now!
