My mates HDD died so he now exclusively runs ubuntu as a live CD. I’ve taught him the basics of the OS and hes getting on great, this will make his experience even better.

Yes but that would increase the image size on the cd. There is a possibility to generate say, the top 5 locales and ship them. This is being looked into.

This is exciting. Knoppix currently has some really great technology going into offering a great Live CD experience. I think Ubuntu can follow the lead and begin leading in this area as well.
